Application Process

The application process at SAE is simple and easy.

SELECTION PROCESS FOR 2020 APPLICANTS

There are more applications than spaces available for SAE Auckland courses. As a result, from February 2020 onwards, SAE Auckland will be applying a selection criteria.

 

This selection criteria will apply to the following courses. 

-       Diploma in Audio Production

-       Bachelor of Audio Production

-       Diploma in Electronic Music Production

-       Bachelor of Music Production

-       Diploma in Screen Production

-       Bachelor of Screen Production

If you are applying to any of these 6 programmes please carefully read the selection criteria below. The application process is online and the below criteria will be required.

Selection Criteria

The criteria used to select applicants for SAE courses is three-fold:

 

1. General Academic Entry

A. Domestic:

i. Diploma: For Level 5 Diploma programmes, candidates are required to have gained a minimum of NCEA Level 2 or equivalent

ii. Degree: For Level 7 Degree programmes, candidates are required to have gained a minimum of NCEALevel 3 or equivalent

iii. Adult Entry: Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the Academic Manager or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introduction programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. 

 

B. International

 i. Academic Record: Copy of the highest academic achievement at the time of application for review.           

ii. English Language Proficiency: International applicants must meet standard NZQA minimum English Proficiency Outcomes e.g IELTS (academic score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5) or equivalent score through TOEFLCambridge English ExaminationsPearson Test of EnglishIESOL or Language Cert.

iii. Adult Entry: International applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the Academic Manager or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introduction programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. 

 

2. Creative work: Applicants must submit an example of their creative work, e.g. links to a SoundCloud, Spotify etc or video links to YouTube, Vimeo etc.

 

3. Why this is the right course for you! Applicants must submit evidence of why they believe the SAE Auckland course they wish to undertake is the right one for them. This evidence can be in any of the following formats:

  • Video file – uploaded during the application process
  • Audio file – uploaded during the application process
  • Written letter – uploaded during the application process
  • Request a face to face interview (either on campus or via Skype/Zoom)

APPLICATION DEADLINES

The first application deadline is 1 October. All applications that have been submitted by this date will be reviewed and suitable candidates selected and offered a place in one of our courses. All applicants will be notified on 1 October of the outcome.

Should there still be spaces available, we will consider applications in a 2nd cut-off date.

The second application deadline is 1 December. All applications that been submitted by 1 December and not yet successful from the first deadline selection will be reviewed and considered. All applicants from the secondary deadline will be notified on 1 December of the outcome.

Outside of these 2 key dates, potential students are welcome to submit an application and it will be placed on a waiting list should a space become available.

 

Tips and Advice:

  • The online application will time out after 2 hours, make sure you save regularly
  • You can save and return to the application at a later time
  • Please have all your documentation and links ready as well as a copy of a valid Passport OR Birth Certificate ready to attach.
  • Domestic applicants must be a minimum of 17 years of age at the start date of the programme. Applicants less than 18 years old must supply a parental/guardian consent.
  • International applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the start date of the programme.
